Check the opening as well as the outside size

Record external width, height and depth with the orientation explained. Then ask about the main opening and any compartment that matters. A padded sleeve, curved top or thick lining can reduce usable space even when the outer dimensions seem generous.

For a laptop, measure the device itself rather than relying only on its marketed screen diagonal. Include the case if you plan to use one. For shoulder straps, record the adjustment range or drop and the measuring method; a full strap length and a vertical drop are different measurements.

Make a photo checklist for the construction

Prioritise the closure, handles, strap attachments, lining, pocket arrangement and base. List detachable straps or small accessories that should be included. If a detail is hidden in the source photos, ask a specific question rather than filling the gap with an assumption.

Photos cannot establish load capacity, material authenticity, waterproofing or long-term hardware durability. Parcel preparation also deserves a note: preserving a structured shape may require different packing from a soft tote. Do not assume every bag should be flattened to reduce dimensions.

Worked example: a device still needs an opening

Example only: a laptop in its case measures 32 × 23 × 2 cm. A bag lists a 35 cm external width, but the internal sleeve and zip opening are unspecified. The outside width alone does not prove fit. Ask for the opening and sleeve measurements in the same orientation.

Save the answer before following the CSSBuy shop workflow. Airline or venue bag limits require a separate check against that organisation's current rules.

  • Distinguish outer dimensions from internal capacity.
  • Record removable parts by name.
  • State whether preserving shape matters for packing.

Common questions

Does a bag's listed width prove my laptop fits?

No. Check the usable compartment and opening against your device, including any case.

Does this page certify materials?

No. This is a research checklist, not an authentication or material testing service.
